Role Summary
Supporting all areas of Aukera’s Engineering and Asset Management activity, working on projects across pre-construction, construction and operations phases. The individual will be acting as the technical lead on both SCADA and Cybersecurity matters across Aukera’s portfolio of projects in Europe.
This role will require close collaborative working with the Engineering, Grid, Procurement, Construction, Revenue and Asset Management teams using high level communication, stakeholder management and problem-solving skills to ensure the success of projects in a timely and cost-effective manner.
The position requires both technical and commercial skills, the ability to form strong working relationships, and work in a team, often remotely, in order to provide technical expertise and support. A good understanding of the roles of contractors, consultants, network operators, equipment suppliers, permitting and other national authorities and other project stakeholders is essential to succeed in this role, as are the SCADA and Cybersecurity skills that will be applied on real-life projects across a growing pipeline in Europe.
Duties and responsibilities
· Evaluate tenders and assist in the selection, specification, and procurement process of PPC and SCADA systems for BESS and Solar PV projects, including review of system architecture and functional capabilities.
· Address any interoperability issues between battery BMS/EMS, PCS management software, the control system, routers, Asset Optimiser/Dispatch hardware and software, metering systems, business intelligence tools for reporting as well as any other internal and external systems (gird – TSO/DNO) that interact with the SCADA system.
· Lead technical support during engineering, construction, commissioning and grid compliance testing, troubleshooting issues and ensuring SCADA / PPC readiness for commercial operation.
· Build and maintain data architecture to store and process data that can be extracted from the PPC / SCADA and above systems. Continuous improvement of PPC and SCADA operation in the live asset portfolio, focusing on system availability, data quality, controllability and operational efficiency to support dispatch, market participation and daily plant operations.
· Operational ownership of PPC and SCADA system integration across plant level, substation level and central platforms, ensuring stable interfaces between inhouse systems, site equipment and third-party solutions.
· Working with the O&M contractor to troubleshoot any outages that may be related to the malfunctioning of any of the above.
· Coordinate with the O&M contractor and equipment manufacturers for the vulnerability and patch lifecycle for SCADA/PPC and other OT components.
· Establish, operate and continuously improve a company‑wide, risk‑based information security and risk management system that complies with the national implementations of the NIS2 Directive in the Aukera countries, as well as corresponding cybersecurity regulations in the UK, and which is aligned with internationally recognised standards.
· Ensure compliance with applicable cybersecurity requirements for critical energy infrastructure, including documentation, audit preparation, verification activities and interaction with relevant regulatory and supervisory authorities.
· Implement, operate and continuously enhance measures for detection and monitoring of cyber threats across IT and OT systems, in particular control, protection and remote‑operation systems, in line with the state of the art.
· Establish and manage a group‑wide incident response and reporting framework to enable timely detection, assessment, mitigation and regulatory reporting of significant cybersecurity incidents.
· Assess and manage cyber risks across the supply and service chain, including defining and enforcing security requirements for service providers, operating partners and manufacturers of critical components.
· Act as centre of expertise on these topics within Aukera and train other staff members.
Experience and knowledge
· 5+ years of hands‑on experience in engineering, integration or operation of PPC and SCADA systems for utility‑scale BESS and Solar PV plants, ideally in an IPP, EPC, OEM or control‑system integrator environment.
· Hands‑on knowledge of PPC, SCADA and OT system architectures, including common field and communication protocols (e.g. IEC 60870‑5‑104, IEC 61850, Modbus) and the ability to troubleshoot issues across IT/OT boundaries.
· Strong experience in defining, maintaining and coordinating data point lists, signal models and communication interfaces between DNOs/TSOs, direct marketers, substations, O&M systems and central control platforms.
· Strong experience deploying, maintaining and troubleshooting (and solving problems with) the control, dispatch, communications and monitoring architecture of a BESS system working for a BESS Portfolio Owner, A SCADA system provider or BESS focused EPC and/or O&M.
· Successful working relationships with key equipment vendors.
· Practical experience applying cybersecurity requirements in IT and OT environments, including risk assessment and management, audit support, incident handling and implementation of recognised security standards in critical infrastructure contexts.
· Understanding/experience of interactions with DNOs/TSOs when it comes to comms protocols and cybersecurity.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, IT or similar.
· Masters degree is a plus.
